September 2007

Most of the month spent in the city of Maceio, Brazil. Not a great place for birding, nor a sensible place to wander around with a pair of binoculars. The following were all seen in Maceio, unless mentioned otherwise:
  1. Magnificent frigatebird (around Rio airport)
  2. Great egret
  3. Black vulture
  4. Turkey vulture
  5. Southern caracara
  6. Common ground-dove
  7. Feral pigeon
  8. Bare-throated bellbird
  9. Masked water-tyrant
  10. Cattle tyrant
  11. Great kiskadee
  12. Blue-and-white swallow
  13. Bananaquit
  14. Sayaca tanager
  15. House sparrow

Non-birds

Great sighting of a radio-tagged Brazilian manatee (Tricechus manatus manatus) swimming down the beach in the city.
