August 2008 - Singapore

In Singapore for one week from 24th August to 31st August. Unfortunately, unable to find a comprehensive field guide for the country, but used Birds of Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, Davison, G. W. H. and Chew Y. F. (2003).

Uncertain sightings
Possible Crested jay seen from below in rain forest. Woodpecker species seen in rainforest and also on Palau Ubin: presumably Flameback (Goldenback, D. javanense).

Non-birds
Numerous long-tailed macaques. Wild pig on Palau Ubin. Several water monitors (Varanus salvator) and possibly other similar species. Plantain squirrel (Callosciurus notatus) and the introduced Slender squirrel (Sundasciurus tenuis).

Probable white-plumed honeyeater in Canberra.

Non-birds
Glimpse of a humpback whale at Byron Bay. Numerous bottlenose dolphins. A fur seal off Byron Bay (Arctocephalus fosteri). Red fox seen from train. European rabbits. Short-beaked echnida near Anna Bay (Port Stephens). Various kangaroos and wallabies seen from train, presumably mostly Eastern grey kangaroos. Various sharks, possibly including tiger shark, and also a manta ray, seen off Fraser Island. Also a python.
